JOHN VOGEL, TOBACCO MASTER

John Vogel became director of all operations at the farm and factory of tocacco company in 2002. Though previously unknown in the marketplace, his entire 40-year career has been devoted to tobacco and cigars.
Vogel's German and Spanish parents raised him in Nicaragua. There, he graduated with a university degree in agronomical engineering. He was hired by the world's largest cigar manufacturer, where his 20 years as project leader in the Research and Development Department took him on assignments around the world and into every facet of the company's activities. His most relevant work focused on all aspects of cigar tobacco agricultural research. He gained expertise in plant breeding, soils testing, fertilizer selection, curing and fermenting studies, plant disease and insect identification and control.

Leaving his employer amicably, Vogel spent 20 years as a technical consultant to the industry. His distinguished career and stature have earned him recognition from his former employer, the US Departments of Commerce and Agriculture, the Windsor County Agricultural Station (in Connecticut's tobacco-farming capital). Foreign heads of state honored him for his work in helping develop the cultivation and improvement of tobaccos in their countries.

During the consulting phase of his career, Vogel acquired and preserved his unique ancestral seed bank of genetically pure Cuban tobacco seeds, stretching back 60 years. This seed bank exists nowhere else in the world. The genetical material was not acquired clandestinely, but through his lifelong association with industry-respected tobacco producers and genetic scientists, including colleagues at Cuban Land, the agricultural research institution that operated in Cuba until Castro disbanded it. Vogel's education, experience and expertise are ...your assurance... you are smoking the cigars that are the bridge between the legendary Havanas of the past and today.
